ACT and the Therapeutic Relationship

ACT and the Therapeutic Relationship

Context and Function Inside Rich Therapeutic Exchange

8
CE Hours available

The ACT therapeutic relationship is an essential part of effective therapy. In acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), this alliance is characterized by the client and therapist working together, using the core processes of ACT, creating a vital and moment-by-moment collaborative experience. Building healthy, supportive, and enriching relationships is necessary for integrating the six core processes of ACT in a fluid and flexible manner. However, the techniques used to implement the therapy can begin to overtake the intervention with processes and relational qualities being given over to clever exercises. The context of the relationship and the ongoing functional analysis of client and therapist behavior can get lost to the methods. In addition, therapists facing a rupture in the alliance may be challenged to mend the discord in a way that is consistent with ACT and coherent with the model. Paying attention to effective work in ACT means paying attention to several levels of process simultaneously. Intrapersonal, interpersonal, and overarching processes along with the six core processes are each part of this relational work. We will explore the therapeutic relationship within the ACT model and present its relevance to context and function of behavior inside of a process-oriented, connected, and vital relationship. This workshop will use didactic, experiential, and role-play exercises to convey the material.

This training is worth 8 CE credit hours if attended live. While we can only provide CE to those who are present – i.e. logged in – for all live sessions, Praxis webinars are recorded for later viewing. Registrants may access these recordings at any time for up to six months from the conclusion of the training to which they pertain.
