About This Course

The COVID-19 Virus has had a continued and devastating global impact. Mental health will be a priority as the full force of the virus becomes known. Death, illness, changes in living, and financial security will weigh heavily on populations across the world. Uncertainty and stress will influence levels of depression, anxiety, and overall well-being for large numbers of individuals. Grief, stress, and trauma will be part of the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working to help people suffering from the mental health effects of COVID-19 will be an urgent and ongoing concern. Safety and stabilization will be essential. Treating clients from a holistic and contextually driven perspective will be key to creating clear and encouraging change in support of recovery. A more fundamental understanding of how to build competence at both personal and community levels will be central to resilience and re-engagement.

Acceptance and commitment therapy is a behaviorally based intervention employing a variety of verbal and experiential processes and techniques to aid clients in making life enhancing choices based on personally held values. The behavioral processes implemented in ACT are well-suited to address the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. This online seminar will explore the mental health effects of pandemics and provide intervention techniques aligned with ACT and designed to promote well-being through enhancement of flexibility and focus on values-based action in recovering from the devastating effects of COVID-19.
